![]() ![]() It was showcased at the European accelerator Seedcamp, where Balderton Capital and Atlas Venture are investors. This was an incredible photo-editing site which allowed users to turn their photos into “painted” works of art in the style of the masters such as Monet, Renoir or Van Gogh. Psykopaint was a web app, but no ordinary web app. Overall I have enjoyed this week’s ICT session and can see how both animation and imaging could be used in the classroom when approached appropriately.Last year I saw an amazing demonstration. Original photo Painted in the style of Van Gogh Here I tried out painting over one of my images from Venice in the style of Van Gogh. The website gives you the option to try out painting from scratch or to paint over an uploaded image, so ideal for both experienced and beginning artists, therefore appropriate for use across the primary school. I think this website could be used as an excellent starting point for children to explore different painting styles to then try out practically themselves during an art session. I thought the website was fairly easy to use however I fear some of the language may not be child-friendly. As I’m not an overly arty person I was intrigued to find out about varying artist’s approaches to painting and felt that this website provided a digestible insight. I decided to look at Psykopaint and had a little play around with some of the different artist’s brush strokes and the varying effects created. I was amazed by the Google Art Project and thought it provided an insight into the world of art and galleries that some children may not have access to. I’d like to think that if I tried using the software again I would be more optimistic and I think the children would definitely be more determined and patient than myself.Īs I didn’t have much time left in the session to look at another program I decided to come home to explore some of the imaging resources available. I think to ensure productivity in both Key Stage 1 and 2 it may be more beneficial to work in small focus groups or even as part of an ICT club. I could see how this would be an exciting project for primary school children to undertake and I think if approached appropriately then the positive results would speak for themselves. I think the possibilities of using animation in the classroom are endless, not only purely in ICT lessons but also when linked across the curriculum, the perfect example being story telling. I think it helped working in pairs though, promoting teamwork, as I could see myself getting even more irate if I had to work on this task alone. We both ended up getting a little frustrated with the tedious task of moving each object a minuscule amount to create the scene and began to lose our patience. I worked with Lucy on the animation and we created the short, simple video below. We were introduced to numerous imaging and animation software and I decided to focus on using a program called MonkeyJam for stop animation and then I moved onto Psykopaint to manipulate images and explore different art techniques and styles. We were focusing on image and animation and I was keen to get started. I was really looking forward to this week’s ICT session after I had seen some of the other group’s creations.
